Heavyweights | "Don't put Twinkies on your pizza!"

It's on Netflix... go now and watch!

Heavyweights has always been one of my favorite Ben Stiller movies. Yes that Ben Stiller! He is hilarious in this along with the Fat-Camp goers to Camp Hope! I actually didn't realize it was on Netflix til yesterday when a friend shared they were watching it on Facebook. I have my own copy of the movie and watched it over the weekend not knowing it was on there. Here is a brief breakdown of the movie if for some unknown reason you haven't seen it yet. SPOILERS!

Fat kids got to fat camp that acquires a new owner who actually wants to get kids to lose weight so he can sell his own workout system called the Perki-System. The fat kids stay fat and overcome both the new owner and the fit/popular kids from a nearby rival camp.

I guess technically you don't have to watch it now but I'd highly recommend it because its just so funny and you wouldn't get the "Don't Put Twinkies on your Pizza" line in the title of this post!

Netflix Movie of the Week | Atari: Game Over

Hey whats going on everybody? This weekend the Mrs and I joined some of our close friends for a weekend getaway in Branson Missouri. We had rented a cabin in the woods... (insert dark ominous music) The weekend has been great and I definitely don't mind having a couple of work days off! Anyways I figured I would watch some movies on Netflix and too my surprise they have added some documentaries that had been removed for a while.

The first movie I picked to watch again was Atari: Game Over.

If you haven't seen this yet I would highly recommend it to you. This movie showcases the rise and fall of Atari. However the main reason for the movie is to discover the burial site for ET the game produced by Atari.

image.jpg

The landfill and search for the site and spot of the burial of these games to me was secondary. My main interest was listening to Howard Warshaw, Chief game Engineer for Atari, talk about the glory days and life as a game developer in the height of the gaming industry. Warshaw created many million copy sellers including Yars Revenge and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

In the end it wasn't just ET that led to the downfall of Atari in fact there were a lot of terrible games out for the system. However ET with so much hype and media surrounding the release of the movie and the timing of all the events there had to be a scapegoat. ET was just that. SPOILER: the landfill was excavated, games were found and some of them were ET. It wasn't a burial ground for that game it was a dump site for a warehouse with many Atari games that closed due to the fall of Atari.

So what say you? Have you already seen this documentary?

What did you think?

Any other Netflix suggestions?

This Week on Netflix: Total Recall

When a man goes for virtual vacation memories of the planet Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real, or does he? -IMDb

Browsing through Netflix this weekend between my episodes of Dr. Who we decided to watch us some old school Total Recall. Arnold plays Douglas Quaid your everyday average guy, well until you see his wife played by Sharon Stone. But like I said other than that he is an average guy working 9 to 5 but he struggles with nightmares of Mars.

Total Recall is set in the future and a booming industry is called Recall is where you can implant custom memories. Why pay for a vacation when you can just by the memories off that vacation at a fraction of the cost? Not only can you buy these implanted memories but you can enhance these memories by adding different features such as your identity or the woman you're with in those memories. Quaid decides he wants to get his own memory of Mars where he is a Secret Agent.

Follow Quaid on his custom Recall or real life adventures both on Earth and on Mars. Where you find some very interesting characters, one of which I like to call "Trits" you'll know when you see her! The movie does a good job at hiding what is real life and what are Recall memories. Definitely worth the watch and in my opinion much better than the remake in 2012 so go check it out!

This Week on Netflix: Dead Snow 2

Yes, there was a Dead Snow 1!

If the worst day of you life consisted of accidentally killing your girlfriend with an axe, chain-sawing your arm off, and watching in horro as your closest friends were devoured by a zombified Nazi battalion, you'd have to assume that things couldn't get much worse. In Martin's case, that was only the beginning. -IMDB

image.jpg

This may have been the funniest and best horror/comedy I have seen since Shaun of the Dead! You get introduced to Martin, the main character and you automatically think of "Idle Hands" except its "Idle Arm!" This movie gets even more interesting when a Nazi army of zombies are awaken and Martin has the answer to defeating them in his arm! Martins new arm has the ability to raise anyone from the dead. So he brings the dead back to life and with him and a small group of the living look to take out the Nazi zombie horde!

I highly recommend this movie to any zombie movie lover and looking for something different, not so main stream, to watch. I'm looking forward to showing both Dead Snow 1 & Dead Snow 2 to my wife to see what she thinks as well!

I give it a 4 out of 5 and if you have Netflix it should be on your list of much watch movies!

What did you think of Dad Snow 2?

This Week on Netflix: Knights of Badassdom

Live-action role players conjure up a demon from Hell by mistake and they must deal with the consequences. -IMDB

Knights of Badassdom was actually a movie I had been wanting to watch for a while prior to it being released on Netflix but never got around to it. Listen to these 4 main actors/actresses in the movie and you'll see why: Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse from True Blood), Steve Zahn (from Sahara), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Summer Glau (Arrow & Serenity). Not only did I want to watch this movie because of these actors but when was the last time you watched another movie about LARPing? Probably never!

You follow Joe (Ryan Kwanten) on his reluctant journey through the Kigdom of Eliphaz as his roommates force him to tag along in their LARPing adventure. Eric (Steve Zahn) unknowingly releases a demon during a ritual they perform and they struggle to undue what had been done.

Things do get a little weird when the demon starts to make its presence and begins killing off those partaking in the event. However as I said before Summer Glau is in the movie so if LARPing actually has women like that involved... where do I sign up?

All in all its a fun movie... should you watch it? Eh... you could probably skip over this one and live a full and happy life. I give it 1.5 Turtle Shells our of 5. The extra half a point was because it was about LARPing!

This Week on Netflix: Horns

image.jpg

Blamed for the murder of his girlfriend, a man (Daniel Radcliffe) awakes one morning to find he has grown a pair of horns. Armed, now, with supernatural powers, he sets out to find the killer.

This was quite an interesting movie. I've been wanting to watch it for a while now and never noticed that it was on Netflix. Who knows it may have just been added I haven't paid too much attention.

Daniel Radcliffe has come a long way from his wizarding days of Harry Potter. I haven't seen any of his other movies but I have been wanting to watch this one and I was surprised how much I liked it.

For a brief synopsis of the movie you follow Ig (Daniel Radcliffe) after he is blamed for the murder of his girlfriend Merrin (Juno Temple). In a fit of rage after a brief ceremony for the loss of Merrin, Ig finds himself being upset with God and destroying the memorial. From there things get weird. Ig wakes up and notices that he has begun growing "Horns" and that everyone in town seems compelled to tell him the truth about anything and everything. As the movie progresses you start to uncover what truely happened to Merrin as well as her secrets.

If you have Netflix or still have a local movie rental store give this one a shot it does get a bit weird in the end but it was a good watch.

Netflix: 90's Batman Takeover

image.jpg

I've been a Netflix subscriber for a few years now. I didn't initially jump on the digital streaming movie/tv show bandwagon but I finally decided to join. This was back when you were still able to get both dvd rentals and streaming combined for one price. Also, at that time the service had categories to where if you paid more you could get more dvd rentals at one time. I chose the basic package which got me one dvd at a time and unlimited streaming. This was the very first monthly subscription I had ever signed up for and glad I did. The current movies listed for streaming is leaps and bounds better than they used to be.

Speaking of better movies I've noticed the emergence of Batman movies popping up on Netflix. Not only Batman movies but the movies I grew up with. 90's Batman dominated my search with Batman Returns (1992), Batman Forever (1995), Batman & Robin (1997) then two animated movies with Batman Beyond (1999) and Batman: The Brave and the Bold (2008).

image.jpg

I had also noticed at the time of this post my favorite Batman movie had been removed. Batman with Michael Keaton released in 1989. This brings me to one of Netflix' downfalls, the movies never last at least not all the good ones. I've heard Netflix is where movies go to die which isn't a bad thing. I've made sure to add Netflix to every portable device we have in our home and regularly flip on the AppleTV to tune in to a movie or show I have already added to my list.

If you're looking for a streaming service I would highly suggest checking out Netflix. For only $7.99 a month it's a cheap way to either eleviate your cable bill, catch up on recently released and older movies or just have the conveinence of VOD (video on demand).
