Movie of the Week | Nerve

Joe Brooks October 17, 2016

Have you ever played a game of Truth-or-Dare where truth wasn't an actual option? That's Nerve.

Let me start out by saying I hadn't heard anything about this movie before watching it. I was scrolling through iTunes Movies because we wanted to buy Central Intelligence, review coming soon, and saw this under "New and Noteworthy". Watched the trailer and knew I had to watch it. Maybe because I think Emma Roberts is good looking or because I think little Franco is hilarious but I had to watch it.

As I mentioned the movie is based of our childhood game Truth-or-Dare where truth isn't an option. It's kind of like a game show if you will, where streamers pay to either "Watch" or "Play" the game for a fee. If you choose to play you have 24 hours to complete different dares chosen by the viewers to garner the most views. These dares start off easy with for example kiss a stranger for 5 seconds which would net you $100. Then work your way up to more challenging dares that can net you thousands of dollars. The top 2 participants with the most viewers then end with a Dare Showdown if you will between each other.

There were a couple of movies that came to mind as far as reference during and after watching it. They were Death Race and Gamer. Literally neither of those movies were like this one but got that vibe from them thanks to the game show social media aspects!

I would absolutely recommend watching this one. Again I went in with no expectations and came out pleasantly surprised. Go on, give it a watch.

Have you seen this movie? What did you think? Let us know in the comments!

This Week on Netflix: Snowpiercer

Joe Brooks June 8, 2015

So we get back from vacation and I was looking for a movie on Netflix to review... I've seen Snowpiercer on there for a few months now but there was something about the looks of it that turned me off. However, Sunday I finally gave it a shot. Let me first break down who some of the actors and actresses are in this movie.

First and foremost Chris Evans, yes the Human Torch & Captain America himself!

Ed Harris! I'll never forget him in the Abyss.

Ollivander from Ollivander's Wands & the Harry Potter franchise, John Hurt.

Plus many other notable actors and actresses!

Back to the review. From the beginning you follow a group of people on the Snowpiercer. What is the Snowpiercer? The Snowpiercer is a train created by Wilford built to sustain life in the cold, life on the Snowpiercer was the only life left on Earth. The Snowpiercer constantly travels around the globe on a global track built by Wilford. The Snowpiercer is segmented off by section, the further back you are the lower in the food chain you are.

You follow Curtis, Chris Evans, and a group of people living in the rear of the train. Their living conditions are horrible, no light except what is provided by the lighting on the train and they are far from clean. Curtis and a group of able bodies look to fight back against the powers that be. Guards make daily headcounts which you later find that its for population control on the train. There is only so much room on the Snowpiercer.

The most interesting part of this movie was seeing all the different sections as Curtis and his men push towards the front. From their dingy and dirty living quarters, to the water purification section, sauna, aquarium, first class, drug class, party class and then the engine room. All different, all unique and were very interesting. This was the main draw for me I was excited to see what section would come next! The only draw back to the movie, to me of course, is the ending. pretty awkward actually if you watch and think about it. Re-population may be a bit tough.

Anyways, I would definitely recommend checking it out. It has that future apocalyptic feel to it and Captain America is in it!

What did you think? What movies do you recommend on Netflix? Let me know in the comments below.
